All means of transport have to be kept, gathered somewhere so that people know where to go if they need some means of transport. People created special "homes" for different means of transport to keep cars, planes, helicopters, trains, ship, etc. in order.
Everybody knows that if a person wants to travel by plane he/she should buy a ticket and go to the airport. Airports are special stations where all planes land and take off. There are several kinds of airports. They may be local, international, and national. Local and national are united into one.
International airports deal with international airlines that transport passengers from different countries. They are usually the biggest ones. National and local airports deal only with national airlines transporting people in limits of one country. There are also military airports for military forces use only.
Airport consists of air terminals and airfield. People draw all documents in the terminal and from the terminal they go directly to the plane. When planes do not travel they are kept in special garage for planes called "hangar".
Devau airport in Germany was the first airport opened in 1919. Almost all big cities have several airports.
Of course airports are necessary nowadays, but there is a problem connected with them. Airports are usually built in suburbs of big cities. So there are a lot of houses situated near it. Planes make a lot of noise when taking off and landing, so people simply can't sleep properly.
If a person wants to make a voyage, he/she must go to the port arrival and departure. There are different kinds of ports. They are river-ports, seaports, naval-ports, etc. The kind of port depends on the purposes with which it is used. Big cities were built near the sea and river ports, thanks to which the transportation of goods became easier and more comfortable.
There are also harbours. Ships may be moored there to. In seaports you may see a great number of yachts, ships, boats, etc. A great number of sailors walk here and there and hurrying passengers take their staterooms in ships. Seaports are very important in the system of goods and passenger traffic.
But seaports pollute water a lot. And it is connected not only with the fuel used by ships, but also litter passengers drop into the water.
Railway stations are built for passengers of trains. They usually consist of the terminal and railroads. Every day a great number of trains pass railway stations making stops or passing by.
Railway stations are used as for cargo as for passengers transportation. There are international and national railway stations. There you may find a great number of services, from carrying your luggage to restaurants and huge shopping malls. Usually big cities have several railway stations.
If you want to take a bus, you should go to the bus station. There you may buy a ticket beforehand or to book it. Bus stations usually deal as with international as national transporting. Bus stations deal only with transportation of passengers. A lot of big and comfortable buses leave and come to the bus station every minute. There are a lot of bus stations; even the smallest cities have at least one bus station.
Bus stations, railway stations, ports, airports play an important role as they are the heart of all transporting infrastructure.
