Motor transport
Imagine streets without cars. It seems to be a miracle and something strange. Streets of the modern city are filled with cars and buses. And wherever you go you may see a great number of cars in streets.
Motor transport is the most spread kind of transport nowadays. It is not so ancient as railway and water transport but the first cars appeared in the end of the 19th century. After the World War 2 it influenced the importance of railway transport decreasing its use.
The main advantages of motor transport are manoeuvrability, flexibility and speed. Trunks carry practically all kinds of goods and cars successfully compete with trains even in cargo transporting at long distances. It is especially important as well as air transport in transporting of perishable goods. It plays an important role in delivery of precious goods.
There are a lot of people who have their personal cars. These cars are usually used in travelling at short distances. Cars offer many possibilities, as people may take their cars any time they want and go wherever they want. Automobiles are of great importance nowadays. Every day they become more available. The automobile companies of great prestige are such trade marks like the Mercedes, the BMW, the Audi, etc.
Public transport is even more important. Buses are especially spread. They are used for local and international passenger traffic, tour passenger transporting. Buses have become more comfortable to turn the trip into a pleasant journey. With the development and updating of buses, they make high competition with railway transport.
Motor transport demands good roads. Almost all European countries have the system of highways that are multilane roads without crossroads where the speed more that 100 kilometres per hour is allowed.
Despite a great number of advantages, it also has a lot of disadvantages. Automobiles are the most expensive transport in compare with other means of transport.
Beside 63% of ecological harm is produced by traffic. Oxides of nitrogen and sulphur that is produced by cars as a result of burning fuel cause the acid rains.
To obtain the right to drive a car a person has to obtain the driving licence. And to obtain driving licence one has to attend driving courses and to learn rules of the road.
But still a great number of accidents take place in the roads and highways. The majority of people die because of car accidents nowadays. So, this is one of the most important problems to which a particular attention should be paid.
