Hitchhiking
Do you want to feel the adrenaline rush? Then hitchhiking is for you. It is the cheapest way of travelling and allows you to choose any transport you like. Usually people hitchhike by cars, stopping them in the roads and asking drivers to give them a lift. But at the same time it is one of the most dangerous ways of travelling.
Hitchhiking appeared in 60-s of the 19th century. It was the time of the development of different informal youth subcultures and movements. And their representatives were the first hitchhikers and they were those who made hitchhiking popular all over the world. But the world changed and movements of 60-s were changed by other subcultures, but hitchhiking left and developed a lot.
It is hard to tell its reasons, because every hitchhiking trip starts individually. Some people go to the road to get new emotions and feelings, usually extreme ones, others want to meet new people, and some people simply don't have money to get to the destination they need. And there are even people who tried it occasionally and understood that their life missed hitchhiking.
Here are some recommendations for hitchhikers:
1. To save your time and the time of a driver make a note with the name of destination place.
2. Always pay attention to the driver of a car. If you are not sure about him/her, it is better to wait for another car.
3. Always keep your baggage with you in passenger compartment and don't put it into boot, in such way you will never forget it and you'll be sure nobody is going to rob you.
As it was mentioned before, nowadays people may use not only cars that were the usual and the first means of transport for hitchhiking. If a person is persistent, he/she may also travel on board of a ship or a plane. There are different kinds of hitchhiking that depend on the means of transport used by hitchhiker.
Almost everybody knows how to stop a car. You go to the road, stand by the road with a first finger raised and wait for a driver who is ready to give you a lift. If you are luck you'll pass a big distance during the day.
Different cars stop. They may be as trunks as automobiles of the latest trends with leather passenger compartment. Some hitchhikers even stopped a tank. Probably there were some experiments held in the nearest zone.
Usually people come back from such trips full of emotions and stories. Some of these stories are really mystical and interesting. There are a lot of stories about meeting with ghosts, killed drivers and passengers and all of them are spirits of dead people searching for something.
But hitchhiking may be very dangerous. Different drivers may stop their cars, and some of them may be potential killers, thieves or rapists. So it is also recommended to travel with a friend. But experiences hitchhikers prefer travelling alone.
